Traffic is one of the leading issues faced by our cities today. However, Pune has found a futuristic solution to help the traffic police tackle this problem.
The city is all set to become the first in India to have a traffic robot on its streets!
According to a Pune Mirror report, the authorities will soon introduce a pilot robot named ‘Roadeo’ which will function as a quasi-traffic policeman and caution commuters about traffic rules and offences.
So, who developed this robot?
Six kids!
Yes, you read that right. Roadeo was developed by made by six children from the city—Aadi Kanchankar, Parth Kulkarni, Rachit Jain, Shourya Singh, Shruten Pande and Vinayak Krishna.
The concept was the brainchild of developers from the city-based SP Robotics Maker Lab, which trains individuals to learn robotics and use the technology to build tech-based solutions.
The robot is equipped with a 16-inch LED display, that will display a ticker of traffic rules and other important messages like ‘Wear a helmet,’ ‘Do not jump the signal,’ etc.
The robot’s hands are also engineered to move and show stop signs to vehicles. Besides, it also has a siren, skid-steering wheels and obstacle-detection sensors.

The report further claims that if the pilot succeeds, Roadeo will be the first robot to be used by any traffic department across India. The idea is to then develop more such prototypes and upscale the idea, which will help alleviate the constant stress understaffed traffic cops are under.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP Traffic) Tejaswi Satpute has signed off on Roadeo, and it will be launched on January 15 and be seen around the main chowks of the city. The kids who have built the robot will share their experience at this public launch.
