The Jharkhand Police are doing their best to bring joy and stability into the lives of children of the Palamu district, a region beset by violence and Naxalite insurgency attacks. With the needs of young citizens in mind, they have launched a new programme called Taare Zameen Par.
Partly inspired by a Bollywood film starring Aamir Khan, that goes by the same name, this initiative has cops collecting amenities from residents of Daltongunj, the headquarters of the Palamu district. The police then re-distributes those among local children who come from underprivileged backgrounds.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Vipul Shukla made a direct appeal to residents, at a function that was held in the city, to donate any supplies they could spare such as books, notebooks, clothes, bags, shoes etc. District Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Indrajit Mehta chipped in to note that such initiatives by the police will not only help society as a whole but will also build confidence among people towards law enforcement.
In 2015, it was
revealed by the Home Ministry that since 1980, over 15,000 people have been killed in incidents related to Naxal attacks.
Of these, 12,177 were civillians and 3,125 were security personnel. The report was produced as a result of an RTI query.

used light aircraft to distribute pamphlets, in areas that witness Naxal insurgency, to inform people and solicit their help in cracking down on the functionaries of these groups.

With initiatives like Taare Zameen Par, they now aim to use their own resources and involve the community in providing aid and support for the innocent young victims who get caught in the web of violence.
